Ela mistura todas as cores. Todas as cores juntas e misturadas! Ela é a magnitude contagiante da boa vibração; ela abraça o que faz com paixão; paixão é o que ela tem e sua presença pode dizer isso. Que presença!Seu sorriso é um presente para nós e é o seu cartão de visita. Femi conquista com seu sorriso e presença. Onde quer que esteja: no Black Cultural Archives Café; sempre em sua confirmada presença no carnaval de Notting Hill e sua sempre surpreendente fantasia; nos eventos que ela organiza; em qualquer lugar. Nascida em Londres, filha de mãe da Guiana Britânica in memoriam e pai Jamaicano, ela se impõe com elegância e magnanimidade, celebrando a vida e o momento. Sempre. Com o que tiver que lidar e com qualquer pessoa. Ela não aceita o ódio, o rejeita. Ela personifica o amor. Amor quando ela fala, amor que ela sente e nos transmite. Seu nome foi escolhido por seu pai, é um nome nigeriano e significa “Me ame”! Ela realmente se apropriou do nome e dele se incorporou, como se pode testemunhar ao se ter a chance de conhecê-la. Femi Solomon Cooper abraça a vida e fala sobre sua consciência racial e sua abordagem na vida seguindo-a, com uma voz adorável, um calmo semblante e uma firme atitude. É ela quem dirige o Café do Black Cultural Archives em Londres, localizado em Brixton, é ex proprietária de uma antiga companhia de teatro e também, de um restaurante. Ela é uma conquistadora e seu caminho e as estórias que formam o “romance de sua vida,” exemplifica isto muito bem.

Quando estávamos prestes a nos encontrar, concordamos em nos encontrar em Brixton, no sudoeste de Londres. No mesmo dia, ao telefone, naquela tarde de segunda-feira, quando ela me ligou para confirmar nosso encontro, perguntei se deveríamos nos encontrar em uma determinada cafeteria, uma cadeia que é bem conhecida por aqui. Ela me respondeu dizendo: “Que tal encontrarmo-nos em um restaurante da Eritréia, localizado em Brixton? Deixemos o dinheiro circular entre nós. Vamos a um restaurante com culinária africana.” Nada mais foi, do que empoderamento negro. Me senti muito bem com sua sugestão. Especialmente porque eu não conhecia o restaurante. Eu realmente gostei e o empoderamento aconteceu. Lindo lugar, com comida deliciosa! Em relação a sua consciência racial, quando falamos sobre isso, ela disse que tem consciência racial desde muito cedo por influência de sua mãe. “O que ela trouxe para casa em termos de musicalidade, idéias, posicionando-se. Ela me brindou uma qualidade extraordinária de música negra, músicos, ela me contou sobre a maneira como as pessoas do Windrush* foram maltratadas quando chegaram à Inglaterra, vindas do Caribe”. Como mulher negra no Reino Unido, Femi diz que enfrenta o preconceito desde cedo, disse-me que recorda bem, nos anos setenta, durante o período escolar, na região onde nasceu e fez seus estudos. Uma área branca muito elegante e sofisticada, Wimbledon / Mitcham, em Londres. Ela é uma empreendedora em sua essência, desde a escola secundária, quando oferecia serviços na escola. Ela começou a vender chocolates, depois analisou seu público consumidor, quando basicamente fez uma pesquisa para verificar se eles queriam algo mais. A escola ficava em uma área sem lojas por perto e era evidente que ela deveria continuar fornecendo o que os estudantes poderiam precisar. Começou com chocolate, depois passou a fornecer sanduíches. Devido a sua popularidade, foi um sucesso. Ter esta mulher como entrevistada foi pra mim, um momento fascinante de conhecimento sobre ela. Em 1999 ela abriu com uma amiga, uma companhia de teatro chamada ‘True Colors’. Femi também é atriz, e esta empresa esteve na ativa de 1999 quando foi inaugurada até o ano de 2003. Perguntada por que ela não está mais atuando, ela diz que durante o tempo de sua companhia de teatro, onde ela não estava nos bastidores, pois esteve a atuar, teve momentos de pouca confidência, mesmo apesar das reações positivas das pessoas. Percebo que este lado atriz no entanto, segue pulsando dentro dela. Pulsa em seu ser. Ela nunca deixou para trás sua essência de atriz, não está nem mesmo adormecida, porque ela é uma personagem em seu dia-a-dia. Femi nos inspira com sua vitalidade e senso de amor. Esta que está envolvida em diferentes atividades, uma delas é ’Caribbean/African’ dinner em sua casa. Quando ela chega à sua casa, única e exclusivamente com um chef e organiza uma festa com comida magnífica. Femi é uma viajante convicta, a paixão por viagens é parte do que é e de sua conversa. Quando discorre sobre sua vida, o que eu posso sentir e testemunhar compartilhando desta conversa com esta mulher brilhante e iluminada, é que ela está em um momento de transição. Muito provavelmente por estar a avaliar que a vida no Reino Unido deve ser deixada de lado e dar espaço para outras possibilidades de viver. Uma mulher em expansão, por isso sua vontade de crescer, voar, ser… Às vezes, a simplicidade de olhar nos olhos, falar e chorar juntos nos aproxima como seres humanos, como mulheres. Ela é uma explosão de positividade, uma pessoa muito consciente, racialmente falando, é ela quem garante que o empoderamento negro ocorra, sempre, onde estiver. Uma mulher com um enorme senso de amor. Quando mencionou sua amada mãe, ela se emocionou. Foi ela quem abriu o caminho para que visitasse e conhecesse o seu primeiro país africano: a Gâmbia. E ela se apaixonou. Eu não posso falar sobre Femi e não mencionar cores. Ela usa cores a todo momento e dela parte o enfático aconselhamento: “Nunca deixe o tempo, o clima, ditar o que você vai usar.” Se o céu de Londres estiver cinza, ainda assim use cores. Eu concordo, as estações não tem cores pré-estabelecidas! Femi sempre comemora seu aniversário e neste 2019 não foi diferente, foi tremendo. Celebração da vida, família, amizade, música, dança, comida, união! Há uma conotação de união na conversa dela, na abordagem sobre a vida, na maneira como ela abraça e enfaticamente proclama que devemos nos apoiar mutuamente. Mulheres negras, negócios e todas as possibilidades que podemos ter como comunidade negra. Eu diria que Femi tem um senso de amor. Femi de amor…

Femi: femininity is her name!

She is all the colours together and mixed, she is the contagious magnitude of good vibe; she embraces what she does with passion; passion is what she’s got and her presence can tell that. What a presence! Her smile is a gift to us and it is her presentation card. Femi is a woman who conquers with her smile and presence, wherever she is. At Black Cultural Archives Café; at her always confirmed presence on the Notting Hill Carnival and her undeniably stunning costume; in the parties she hosts, anywhere. She is London born, daughter of a British Guinean mum in memoriam and daughter of a Jamaican dad. She imposes herself with elegance and magnanimity, celebrating life and the moment, with whoever she deals with and wherever she is. She denies hate, she implies love. Love when she talks, the love she feels transmits to us. Her father chose her name, it is a Nigerian name and it means ’Love me’! She really appropriated her name and it is incorporated by her, as you can witness by having the chance to meet her. Femi Solomon Cooper embraces life and speaks about her racial conscious and her approach to things in life following to it, with a kind voice, beautiful semblance and firm attitude. She runs the Black Cultural Archives Café, she was a former Theatre company and a former restaurant owner. She is a conqueror, and her path and the stories which form its ‘novel life story’, exemplifies it very well.

When we were about to meet up, we agreed to meet up in Brixton/ South West London. On the same day, over the phone, that Monday afternoon, when she called me to confirm our meeting, I asked if we should meet up at a certain Coffee shop, a well known chain for coffee, here. She replied to me saying this: “What about to meet at the Eritrean Restaurant, in Brixton? Let the money circulate between us. Let’s go to a restaurant with African cuisine. It was nothing else than Black empowerment. I felt very good about her suggestion. Especially since I did not know the restaurant, I really appreciated that and the empowerment took place. Lovely place with gorgeous food! Regarding a racial consciousness when we talked about that and I asked her about it, she said she has got it since a very early stage because of her mother influence. ” What she brought home in terms of musicality, ideas, positioning herself. She brought me an extraordinary quality of black music, musicians, she told me about the way the Windrush people were badly treated when they got to England, from the Caribbean.” As a black woman in the UK, Femi told me that she faced prejudice on the seventies during school time in an area she was born and had her studies. There she got to know that. A very classy white area, Wimbledon/Mitcham in London. She is a proper entrepreneur in its essence, since Secondary school she was offering services at school. She started selling chocolates, after she analysed her public consumer, she basically ran an enquiry to check if they wanted something else. The school was in an area with no shops around and it was evident that she must go on supplying the students with what they needed. Started with chocolate, then she moved into sandwiches. Due to her popularity, it was a success. Having this woman as an interviewee was for me, a moment of fascinating knowledge about herself. In 1999 she opened with a friend, a Theatre company called ‘True Colours.’ She is also an actress and this company was opened between 1999 to 2003. I asked why she is not acting anymore, she told me that during the time of her company, she wasn’t behind the scenes but she had moments with low confidence, even despite people’s positive feedback. She never left behind her actress essence, because she is a character herself on a daily basis. Femi inspires us with her vitality and sense of love. She is involved in different activities, one of them is ’Caribbean/African Dinner at your house’, when she comes to your house uniquely with a chef and hosts a party for you with magnificent food. A convicted traveller and this passion for travels are imbued with herself and her talk.She talks and what I can see, feel and witness sharing this talk with this brilliant, enlightened woman, is that she is having a moment of transition and most probably she is getting to the point that life in the UK must be put aside to other possibilities. She is in expansion and so her willingness to grow, to fly, to be… Sometimes the simplicity of look eye to eye, to talk and to cry together, bring us closer as a human being, as women. I cannot talk about Femi and not mention colours. She wears colours all the time and she is emphatic saying: “Never let the weather dictate what you are going to wear!” If in London the sky is grey, you can still wear colours.” I agree, colours have no season. She is a blast of positivity, a very conscious person, racially talking, she is the one who makes sure that the black empowerment takes place, a woman with an enormous sense of love and when her mother has been mentioned she got emotional. She was the one who opens the way for her to visit and to know her first African country: Zambia. The country she fell in love with. Femi always celebrates her birthday, in 2019 it wasn’t different and it was tremendous. The celebration of life, family, friendship, music, dance, food, togetherness! There is a sense of togetherness in her voice, approach in life, the way she embraces and proclaims that we should support each other. Black women, business, and all the possibilities we can have as a Black community. I would say that Femi has got a sense of love.
